The number of flooring options available in Singapore has never been larger. Walk into any renovation showroom and you will find SPC, LVT, engineered wood, homogeneous vinyl, epoxy, parquet, porcelain tiles, composite decking and more — each with its own claims about durability, aesthetics and suitability for Singapore’s climate.
Most homeowners and business owners find this overwhelming. This guide cuts through it. Here is every flooring type available in Singapore, honestly assessed for what it is good at and where it falls short.
Vinyl-Based Flooring
SPC (Stone Plastic Composite)
The most popular flooring choice in Singapore right now for residential renovation. A rigid mineral core makes SPC completely waterproof throughout, dimensionally stable in humidity and resistant to denting under heavy loads. Click-lock installation means it goes over existing tiles in resale HDB flats without hacking.
Best for: HDB flats, condos, offices and most commercial spaces. Almost any room including kitchens and bathrooms.

LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile)
A broad category of premium vinyl products with a wider design range than standard SPC. Available in large-format stone tiles, herringbone layouts and deeply textured finishes. Can have a rigid or flexible core.
Best for: Spaces where aesthetics matter most. Hospitality, retail, premium residential and corporate offices.

Homogeneous Vinyl
A solid-composition vinyl where colour runs through the full thickness. No separate wear layer means surface abrasion does not change the floor’s appearance. Installed in sheets that can be thermally welded for a seamless, fully hygienic surface.
Best for: Hospitals, schools, government buildings, commercial kitchens and any high-traffic environment where hygiene and longevity are the priority over design.

ESD Vinyl
A specialist product for environments where static electricity poses a risk to equipment or safety. Electrically conductive or dissipative, connected to a building earth point via copper grounding strips.
Best for: Data centres, electronics manufacturing, cleanrooms, server rooms and medical device facilities.

Wood-Based Flooring
Solid Timber / Parquet
Real hardwood flooring — either in strip boards or the small blocks characteristic of parquet. Beautiful, authentic and warmer underfoot than any synthetic product. Demands humidity management in Singapore’s climate and requires periodic professional polishing and eventual resanding.
Best for: Landed properties with consistent climate control. Not suitable for HDB wet areas.

Engineered Wood
A real timber veneer bonded to a plywood or HDF core. More dimensionally stable than solid timber in Singapore’s humidity. Still requires care and cannot be used in wet areas.
Best for: Condos and landed homes where a genuine timber aesthetic is desired and the space is consistently air-conditioned.
Stone and Tile
Ceramic and Porcelain Tiles
Singapore’s most traditional flooring choice. Durable, waterproof and available in almost unlimited designs. The limitation is grout — porous grout lines require regular sealing and cleaning and are a hygiene concern in clinical environments.
Best for: Bathrooms, outdoor areas and wet spaces where budget is a primary consideration.
Natural Stone (Marble, Granite, Slate)
Genuinely beautiful materials with authentic variation that no manufactured product fully replicates. Marble requires significant ongoing maintenance — it etches from acid contact, scratches from grit and needs professional polishing every 12 to 18 months in Singapore’s conditions.
Best for: Premium residential and hospitality lobbies where aesthetics are the priority and maintenance commitment is accepted.
Our marble polishing service covers restoration and ongoing maintenance across Singapore.
Terrazzo
A composite material — typically marble chips set in cement or resin, ground and polished smooth. Has significant heritage in Singapore’s older buildings and is experiencing a strong design revival. Durable when properly maintained.

Specialist Coatings
Epoxy
A surface coating applied to existing concrete, not a standalone flooring material. Excellent for car parks, commercial kitchens and industrial spaces. Requires sound, properly prepared and dry concrete. Not recommended for Singapore residential floors due to subfloor moisture risks.

Microcement
A thin cement-based coating applied over existing surfaces to create a seamless, minimalist finish. Popular in Singapore’s café and boutique retail interiors for its raw, textured aesthetic. Requires sealing and careful maintenance.

Outdoor Surfaces
Composite Decking
WPC boards for balconies, pool surrounds and outdoor terraces. UV-stable, moisture-resistant and splinter-free. The most practical outdoor floor choice for Singapore’s tropical climate.

Rubber Flooring
Vulcanised rubber in tiles or rolls. Essential for gym weight areas and high-impact zones. Also used for outdoor play areas and commercial spaces with safety and anti-fatigue requirements.
How to Narrow It Down
Start with the space’s primary requirements. If moisture is a factor, eliminate wood-based products and unprotected epoxy immediately. If hygiene is critical, move toward seamless vinyl or homogeneous sheet. If underfoot comfort is the priority, consider acoustic SPC or rubber. If you want design to lead, LVT or engineered wood herringbone.
The HDB renovation guidelines are the starting point for any Singapore residential project — floor height limits and permitted materials apply regardless of which product you choose.
