A friend of the team once fitted out a lovely room for pickleball, then discovered the air con was blowing straight across the court. Every serve drifted. The booking calendar looked great and the regulars quietly stopped coming.
That story is why we walk through a short checklist with every indoor venue, long before anyone talks about flooring.
1. Space and ceiling height
Work out how many courts you want, then check the footprint using the numbers in our guide to pickleball court dimensions in Singapore. Measure the clear height at the lowest beam or pipe. Lobs are a big part of the game.
2. Lighting
Bright, even light matters more than most owners expect. Strip lights directly over the court centre can dazzle a player looking up for a lob. Lights placed along the sides work better. Aim for consistent light across the whole court so players do not feel shadows moving.
3. Noise
Pickleball is loud. The paddle and ball make a sharp pop that carries through walls and floors. If your unit shares a wall with an office or a neighbour, plan for it. A resilient sports vinyl with a cushioned backing helps a lot with impact noise travelling through the slab. And you can add wall treatments if needed. Our note on soundproof flooring in Singapore explains the options.
4. Flow and facilities
Think about where players wait, where they put their bags and where the next group enters without crossing a live court. Water, toilets and storage for nets and paddles belong in the plan from day one.
5. The floor itself
For indoor courts we recommend a PVC sports vinyl with a fine grain surface and a shock absorbing layer. It is smooth enough for slides, grippy enough to stop cleanly and forgiving on knees. You can see how we put it together on our pickleball court flooring page and our wider sports flooring range.
Our recommendation
If space allows, always aim for two courts. It changes how you can run sessions, from coaching on one court to open play on the other. Then book a site visit and tape out the lines before you sign anything.
